What are Japanese Auctions & Carvector's Role
Introduction
!
Japanese auctions are highly competitive professional marketplaces where dealers bid every day. Cars sell at fair market prices — realistic savings vs your local market are 10–20%, not 50%. The value is quality and selection, not rock-bottom prices.

Each vehicle has a market price and a minimum reserve set by the seller. The true advantage of Japanese auctions is a massive selection of quality vehicles with verified mileage, documented condition, and transparent data.

How Japanese car auctions work
01
Finding the Car's Average Selling Price
Research
Throughout this guide we use a Mazda CX-5 (2021) with delivery to Cyprus as a worked example.
I want a Mazda CX-5

Before bidding, you need to understand what similar cars actually sell for at auction.

a) Check Sales Statistics on Our Website

Open the Statistics section and select your target model. You'll see recently sold cars with their final auction prices.

i
Note: USS auctions don't publish final prices. Statistics shown are from other auctions. If data for your model is limited, request the average price from your manager.
Check_sales_statisti_Mazda_CX-5
Check_sales_statisti_Mazda_CX-5
b) REQUEST AVERAGE SELLING PRICE FROM OUR MANAGERS. If statistics for your model are not available, we can help. Just send us the following information:
  • Car model (e.g. Mazda CX-5)
  • Year range (e.g. 2021–2023)
  • Maximum mileage (e.g. 40,000 km)
  • Your budget (e.g. 12,000–14,000 euros)

Our managers will provide you prices of recently sold cars from USS auctions. Below is an example of the statistics you will receive:

I want a Mazda CX-5

Here you can see the year of manufacture, the mileage (Odo.), and the Final price (add 000 to have price in yen).

*If you don’t have specific requirements you can use our website to research upcoming lots, and if you found car of your interest, send us a link.

You’ve learned how to find the average auction price — now let’s see how to calculate the total cost to your port (C&F price).

Once you know the average auction price — the next step is calculating the total C&F (Cost & Freight) cost to your port.
02
How to calculate the final cost. What is C&F?
Costs

C&F (Cost & Freight) is the total price: vehicle auction price + freight to your destination port + Japanese local expenses + our commission.

FormulaC&F = Auction Price + Freight + Japan local expenses + Commission
What's Included
  • Auction price — the car's purchase price at auction
  • Commission — from 4,8%, min ¥95,000 (car dealers may have reduced commission rate)
  • Japan domestic expenses — ¥90,000
  • Freight — per m³, depends on destination and car's volume
Example — Mazda CX-5 to Cyprus, Auction Price ¥1,700,000
ItemAmount
Auction price¥1,700,000
Commission (4.8%, min ¥95,000)¥95,000
Japan domestic expenses¥90,000
Freight¥450,000
Total C&F¥2,335,000 ≈ €13,000
C&F covers delivery to your port only. Local customs and import taxes are paid separately upon arrival.

Vehicle Selection and Evaluation
Your Choice
i
This step is your decision. Carvector provides the tools and data — you evaluate the car and decide whether to bid.
Your personal manager is here to help: they can assist with selecting suitable lots, evaluating condition, reading auction sheets, and spotting red flags — so you don't end up with a lemon.
Vehicle_Selection

After paying the deposit, you can start searching for a car that meets your preferences. When selecting a vehicle, please use the examples from the provided statistics as a reference — choose cars with similar parameters such as year, ±10.000 km mileage, auction grade, and chassis ID if known.

This way, your bids will align with the actual market level, increasing your chances of a successful purchase.

Vehicle_Selection

There’s no point in bidding on a car with mileage twice lower than in the examples you received initially — its market price will be much higher, and such a bid won’t be competitive.

Note: If you still want to bid on a vehicle that differs by more than 20,000 km, it’s better to ask your manager to provide updated statistics for similar cars.

Why Your Max Bid Matters?
!
Each lot's auction lasts 15–30 seconds. You set your maximum bid in advance — we bid on your behalf. If the car sells for less, you pay the final price, not your maximum.

Each lot's auction lasts only 15–30 seconds, so every second matters. That’s why we need to know your maximum bid in advance — the highest amount you’re ready to pay for the car.

📌If the car is sold for less, your payment will be based on the Final winning price, not your maximum.

During the auction, we place bids on your behalf, up to the amount you’ve set. If the bidding goes above your maximum amount, we simply stop and move on to the next lot.

Auction Price Bid — this is the car-only amount (the winning bid). After purchase, shipping, Japan-side costs, and our commission are added, and the invoice reflects the total price to your port. ✅ 📊 Auction results and statistics are always shown in the Auction Price format, not in C&F.

!
You can also estimate the total cost in advance using the C&F calculator shown previously.

C&F Price Bid — you set a maximum total budget to your port. Our manager deducts freight, commission, and Japan-side expenses to calculate the car-only bid

C&F Price Bid
!
Your bid is a request, not an instant action.
After clicking "Make a Bid", your bid gets the status Request and is sent to your manager for review. The manager confirms it — only then it becomes active and is traded at auction. If not confirmed, no one will bid on your behalf.

Track the status in your account under My Auction Bids:
  • Request Waiting for manager confirmation
  • Confirmed Active — will be traded at auction
  • Won Congratulations — the car is yours
  • Failed Outbid — try the next lot
!
You know your maximum total cost in advance. 💡 If the car is won for less, the total is adjusted accordingly.
